Sadly, John Hume, voted “Ireland’s Greatest”, has passed away.
He spent his life in the persistent and passionate struggle for peace and equal rights from his home base in his beloved Derry. John was truly a leader in Ireland and the Civil Rights movement, but he also worked in practical ways to improve peoples’ lives through better housing, founding a Credit Union, etc. And incidentally won the Noble Peace Prize.
“I never thought in terms of being a leader, I thought very simply in terms of helping people”
He lived to see his dreams come to fruition and the world is better for his efforts.
